Your Week five recap

🏈⚡ Week 5 is in the books! ⚡🏈

First things first: a quick shoutout to the absolute legend Mike Ditka. A sports culture icon who helped define the tight end position as we know it today and led one of the most dominant teams in NFL history—the legendary '85 Bears. Rest in peace, Iron Mike 🐻👇.

As for our league? Well... I genuinely never thought I’d be in last place in my own league, but here we are 📉🤡. A pitiful performance week in and week out has me scraping the bottom of the barrel. But you know what? That’s fine. I proudly secure my position in the dark so that the rest of you don't have to. I'm taking one for the team here. You're welcome 🤓😂.

Enough about what lies beneath. We had a massive logjam at the top with four people throwing down a fantastic 18 points this week:

  • Uncle Chuck (Charles Corwin): Keeping on truckin' and firmly holding down that #1 spot 👑.

  • Martin Garza: Sneaked his way right into a tie for 2nd place with Jack Hamm at 78 total points 🌯📈.

  • Paige Warmington: Dialing up the temperature and keeping things blazing hot, climbing into a 3-way tie for 3rd place at 77 points 🔥. Sharing that spot with Sara Butler, who keeps steadily climbing up, and Tim Corwin, who is slipping just slightly.

  • The Dynamic Duo (Bates & Wireman): These two have been hovering around the top 10 for weeks and finally cracked the code, sliding into #9 with 75 points 🕵️‍♂️🤝.

This week's madness:

  • An NFL first: This is the first time in NFL history where 2 games had both teams kick a field goal in the final 10 seconds. Both games were international games. 2 weeks ago, the Ravens upset the Cowboys with seconds left on the clock, driving down to have a 56 yard FG end the game in Brazil. This week, with 8 seconds left, the Jags take a kick return into FG range with 1 second left. Cam Little splits the uprights and ends the game in a victory, 19-17 over the Eagles.

  • 0-4 No Longer: We started the week with five winless 0-4 teams and trimmed it down to three. The Bucs and the Texans stomped their way into the win column against the Cowboys and Titans! The Bucs looked great behind undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels, who notched his first career start and win with massive help from stud RB Bucky Irving, who lit up the night with 165 yards and a TD 🚀.

The Texans finally caught a spark on their climb back toward contention, taking down the lowly Titans. The defense showed up big and the offense woke up in the second half. Hopefully, they can bottle that momentum as they head across the pond to London next week for a massive divisional showdown against the Jags 🇬🇧✈️.

  • Clock Management Masterclass? 🤡: NFC East teams continue to baffle us. Two of them played each other and ended overtime in a tie—which remains one of the dumbest rules in professional sports 🤝💤. But the Commanders should have won outright if not for some of the most impressively terrible clock management and situational awareness you will ever see. With 20 seconds left, well within field goal range, and zero timeouts remaining... they decide to run another play?! Instead of throwing it away, Daniels takes a sack, panics, realizes they have no timeouts, and scrambles to spike the ball—falling well short as time expires. Absolutely pitiful 🤦‍♂️💥.

  • The Last of the Winless ⚓: The Dolphins, Chargers, and Titans are locked in a ruthless cage match for the worst team in the NFL. None of these teams play each other this year, and looking at their schedules, all of them could legitimately go winless. Historically, multiple winless teams in a single season has only happened once—back in 1935 when there were only 10 games in a season (and those teams don't even exist anymore). Having a single winless team has only happened twice: the 2008 Lions and 2017 Browns. How will this race to the bottom end? It’s going to be a nail-biter of epic proportions 🍿👀.
