The Lowdown

Every week, you'll make picks for the upcoming NFL slate:

  • Straight-Up Picks: Pick the winner for every game on the weekly schedule (no point spreads).

  • 6 Bonus Games: Each week, I will select 3 games with a Point Spread and 3 games with an Over/Under total to serve as bonus picks.


The regular season determines the champion. If there is a tie at the top of the leaderboard at the end of Week 18, those tied players will advance to a Playoff showdown until a single winner is decided.

 

Scoring & Points

  • 1 Point: Each correct Straight-Up pick.

  • 2 Points: Each correct Bonus Game pick (Spread or Over/Under).

 

Betting Terms Explained

1. Betting Against the Spread

The point spread is a handicap used to make a matchup a 50/50 proposition.

  • Favorite (-): Must win the game by MORE points than the spread.

  • Underdog (+): Must win the game outright OR lose by FEWER points than the spread.

Example: Texans (-3.5) vs. Raiders (+3.5)

  • Texans (-3.5): Must win by 4 points or more.

  • Raiders (+3.5): Must win outright or lose by 3 points or fewer.

  • Note on Pushes: If a spread is a whole number (e.g., -3.0) and the final score hits the exact spread, it is a Push (a tie; no points are awarded).


2. Betting the Over/Under (Total Points)

Instead of picking who wins, you are betting on the combined total points scored by both teams.

  • Over: You win if the combined score is MORE than the line.

  • Under: You win if the combined score is LESS than the line.

 

Deadlines & Submissions

All picks are due before the respective game starts. A slight grace period may be allowed for minor delays, but late picks received after kickoff will not count.

 

Entry Fee & Payouts

  • Entry: $30 per player ("Your ticket to ride").

  • Payout Structure:

    • 1st Place: 70% of the pot

    • 2nd Place: 25% of the pot

    • 3rd Place: 5% of the pot (essentially gets your entry fee back)

 

Weekly Bonuses: If we hit our participation threshold, we will also include $5 or $10 weekly payouts for the top score each week. (For context, our 2017 pool had 66 members at a $50 entry with a $3,500 total pot!)
